The Stout Infused Bratwurst

It’s that time of year again. The leaves are turning colour, the air is crisper, hockey season is underway. The scarves are out, the jackets have been dusted off, and everyone is ready for the bombardment of pumpkin flavoured foods, drinks and candies. Of course, aside from dressing up in a costume, nothing says October like Octoberfest. The German folkfest is all about one thing, well maybe two—beer, and sausages!

Longwood is getting into the pumpkin loving, costume wearing, German-styled season with some hearty beers from the brewery paired with some artisan, kick your taste buds in the mouth old school sausages. Head honcho chef Shane Hagan will be celebrating the season with a stout infused bratwurst. Served on a delectable toasted ciabatta bun, it’s topped with beer braised onion and Dijon mustard. “Simple and killer,” says Hagan, who likes his adjectives short and sweet. On the side, to wrap it all up, some house made kettle chips tossed with BBQ smoked salt. Let the beers begin!


Put on that costume, dust off your German, wrap yourself in a scar, crunch some leaves and head to Longwood to usher in the end of summer, but the start of something just as awesome.
