During the the early 20th century many Nanaimo men took to logging and construction, all done with horses and true manpower. The men in this image are constructing a logging road, to help move valuable logs and wood throughout the province and beyond. Loggers cut down trees by hand, using just axes and bucksaws. After, wood was transported by horse-drawn carriages and sleds to the their final destination. Bet they worked up quite an appetite! (From the collection of Nanaimo Museum)
